Ceiling & Roof Leak
Water Damage Austin TX

Roof leaks travel further than you think — we find it all.

Roof water enters at one point and travels to another — the stain on your ceiling is rarely where the leak is. Thermal imaging finds the full path. We trace it, dry it, and restore it completely.

Our Process

Roof and ceiling leaks are deceptive in a specific way: water enters the structure at the roof membrane and then travels along rafters, decking, and insulation — sometimes for several feet — before dripping through to your ceiling. The visible stain or bubble is almost never the origin point, and what you can see on the ceiling is almost always less than what's actually saturated. AAA Disaster Recovery uses thermal imaging cameras and calibrated moisture meters to trace the full travel path of water through your attic space and ceiling assembly, identify every saturated material, and ensure the drying process addresses the complete damage — not just the visible portion.

01

Roof & Entry Point Assessment

We identify the roof entry point, assess current weather protection, and determine whether emergency tarping is needed to prevent additional water intrusion during restoration.

02

Thermal Moisture Mapping

Thermal cameras trace the full path of water migration through attic insulation, ceiling framing, and into wall cavities — identifying all saturated materials beyond the visible stain.

03

Attic & Insulation Inspection

Saturated insulation is assessed and removed where necessary — wet insulation loses all thermal value and is a primary site for mold colonization in Austin's warm climate.

04

Water Extraction

Any pooled or standing water in ceiling cavities, wall assemblies, or flooring below is extracted using targeted equipment specific to overhead and wall applications.

05

Structural Drying

Commercial dehumidifiers and directional air movers treat ceiling framing, drywall, and wall cavities simultaneously. Daily moisture readings track progress until all materials reach dry standard.

06

Mold Prevention Treatment

Attic framing, ceiling joists, and drywall receive EPA-registered antimicrobial application — the surfaces most vulnerable to mold after roof leak events in Austin's humidity.

07

Ceiling & Drywall Restoration

Water-stained and damaged ceilings and drywall are replaced and finished to match surrounding surfaces, returning the space to pre-loss condition.

Common Questions

My ceiling is bubbling or stained — how serious is it?

A stained or bubbling ceiling always indicates more moisture than what you can see on the surface. The bubble is water pooled against the drywall paper; the stain is mineral deposit from water that has already dried — but the wood framing, insulation, and cavities above it are likely still wet. Thermal imaging typically reveals a saturated zone 2–4x larger than the visible ceiling damage.

The roof is already fixed — do I still need water damage restoration?

Yes. Fixing the roof stops new water from entering, but all the water already absorbed into structural materials needs to be removed with commercial drying equipment. Standard ceiling air movement from HVAC systems is not sufficient. Leaving structural moisture in place leads to mold colonization within 48 hours in Austin's climate.

Can a small roof leak cause mold in the attic?

Absolutely — and attic mold from small leaks is one of the most common inspection findings in Austin homes. Attic spaces are warm, poorly ventilated, and full of organic material (wood framing, sheathing). Even a minor chronic leak that allows moisture to collect can produce significant mold growth within weeks. We assess and treat attic mold as part of our roof leak restoration scope.

Does homeowner insurance cover roof leak water damage?

Sudden storm events — hail, wind, fallen branches — that cause a roof breach are generally covered under standard homeowner policies. Damage from a roof that has been slowly deteriorating over time due to deferred maintenance is typically excluded. We document the event, the breach location, and the extent of interior damage thoroughly to build the strongest possible claim.

How long after a roof leak can mold start growing?

Mold can begin colonizing within 24–48 hours under warm, humid conditions — exactly what an Austin attic provides year-round. For roof leaks that happened during a rain event and were not discovered immediately, we assess for early mold growth as part of the initial inspection and treat proactively if conditions indicate high risk.
